On Tuesday, I recapped a few shows where you could steal some inspiration for the current
season. But why stop there? I’m thinking you might want to take a peek ahead, past the snow and icy temperatures (you know you’re going to be screaming for spring in about a month to six weeks), and see what’s in store when the weather warms up again. Here are some great runway trends to look forward to, and how to make them work off the catwalk, too.
Bare shoulders
Runway: Ralph Lauren and Zac Posen were just two designers amongst a host who showed stunning gowns with draped, off-the-shoulder cutouts. While these looks were completely gorgeous, my guess is you don’t attend a ton of premieres, galas and award ceremonies…so, we may need to alter this trend a snitch!
Street would be the best way to work this trend off the catwalk. Choose an oversize garment, and wear a cute, comfy tank underneath so you’re revealing just a little bit of skin. It’s the same silhouette as the runway, just far more wearable for everyday.
Crop Tops
Runway: It’s back for Round Two! The corp copshowed up on the runway for another springtime, strutting out at Preen and Rebecca Minkoff, among others. Structure owned the day for these collections, but will that translate as an off-duty look?
Street: I’d suggest a breezier vibe for a street style. High-waisted pants, shorts or a comfy pencil skirt would be ideal, showing just a sliver of skin in your midsection, not a whole lot of navel–which would be too much, y’all.
Intense Prints
Runway: Lots of color, almost over-the-top color, at Peter Som and Altuzarra… so cool, but not exactly a look many will have the guts to rock on the sidewalk. I mean, I wouldn’t even dare wear a jumpsuit or pants that loud.
Street: You could tone down crazy prints a couple ways: Wear a top with a cute cardi over top in a neutral, which will show a fun bit of attitude without going into outlandish territory. Or, utilize extras. Scarves would be an excellent accessory in a bold floral print, or a cool belt.
